Email Capture with ConvertKit

Added in version 2.3

If ConvertKit is your email service provider, this is for you. If you are using MailChimp,  click here instead. If you are using another email service, click here.

How to Set Up Email Capture with ConvertKit

Choose ConvertKit from the drop-down menu in the Email Integration tab of your Smart Podcast Player settings.

You have two options to connect ConvertKit to your Smart Podcast Player. The first, and simplest, option is:  Use basic CTA. The second option is to Use embed code from email provider. Both will connect to your email list (as long as you have your ConvertKit API Key and List ID connected in the Email lntegration settings).

We'll walk you through what to do with each of these approaches here:

Use Basic CTA

To create your basic CTA form, scroll down about halfway on the Email integration tab. The Dialog box should be set to Use basic CTA. Underneath that, you can customize your form with an image (add URL of image; maximum height of 200px), header text, body text, name fields, and button text.

Before you do that, first you need to add your  ConvertKit API Key (found in your ConvertKit Account settings; see below).

Copy and paste your ConvertKit API Key into the  ConvertKit API Key field within the SPP Email Integration settings.

Then you will add your ConvertKit Form ID (below ConvertKit API Key). To access your Form ID, go to Forms > Settings > Embed. You will copy the Form ID from the address bar, or the Javascript line of code (Note: when you use the other Use embed code from email provider option, you will need to use the Raw HTML option instead of the Javascript option).

Copy and paste that Form ID (263889 in this example) into your Email Integration settings ConvertKit Form ID field.

With Dialog box set to Use basic CTA, you can customize your Image URL (max height: 200px), header text, body text, user fields, and button text.

Here's an example of email capture with Use basic CTA as the set option. When a user clicks on your email capture button on your Smart Podcast Player (full or track player), this will pop-up:

Use Embed Code from Email Provider

Use embed code from email provider is your second option to add email capture with ConvertKit.

First, change Dialog box to Use embed code from email provider.

Copy and paste your ConvertKit API Key and ConvertKit Form ID (see above for instructions on that) into the  ConvertKit API Key field.

Now you need to create your form in ConvertKit. To do that, go to Forms in the navigation menu in ConvertKit, click Forms. Click the + Create Form button. You'll be taken to this screen:

Click on Form (the option on right). Pick the form style you'd like.

For this example, we clicked on the middle option (with the image).

Click Save in the upper-right corner in ConvertKit. Then click on the Settings tab.

Click on the Embed tab and choose Raw HTML option in middle.

Copy and paste the raw HTML into your Call To Action - HTML From ConvertKit field in your Smart Podcast Player settings. Click Save.

In regards to the Style of your ConvertKit form, you can change a few things.

We recommend the following options:

  • Full and Inline
  • Minimal and Inline

Note: Do NOT use Modal or Slide In options. Those won't work.

Here's an example of email capture with Use embed code from email provider. This is a simpler option (as opposed to the with image option shown above).
